Derby County v Chelsea

When: Wednesday, 17 December 2014 @ 01:45 (FINISHED)
Where: The IPRO Stadium
The current leaders of the Sky Bet Championship will meet the current leaders of the Barclays Premier League in Tuesday night’s televised League Cup quarter-final.

Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea won the competition twice during his previous spell as manager – in 2005 and 2007 respectively – and will view this as a key opportunity to land the Portuguese’s first piece of silverware since returning to the club in 2013.

But their confidence may have taken a knock after suffering their first defeat of the season at the hands of Newcastle United last weekend, and the Blues have also failed to win either of their last two games away from Stamford Bridge.

The hosts are aiming to reach the semi-finals of the competition for the first time since 2009, where they were narrowly beaten 4-3 on aggregate by eventual winners Manchester United.

Steve McClaren’s team have only lost once at home this season and are priced at 5/1, which could well represent decent value, particularly given Chelsea scraped past League Two Shrewsbury Town with a 1-2 away win in the fourth round.

The visitors are unsurprising favourites at 8/15, and have not lost on their last four visits to Derby, but they may be better priced at 6/5 to win with a handicap of -1.
