Tottenham Hotspur v Newcastle United

When: Thursday, 18 December 2014 @ 01:45 (FINISHED)
Where: White Hart Lane
With both teams lying in tenth and seventh respectively in the Premier League, the Capital One Cup provides Tottenham and Newcastle with a realistic chance of silverware, as well as a route into European competition next season.

Tottenham’s home form in the Premier League has been suspect to say the least under new manager Mauricio Pochettino this season, winning three, losing four and drawing one – though they are unbeaten at home in cup competitions.

One of those home losses includes a 2-1 defeat to Wednesday night’s opponents when they met in October, as second half-goals from Sammy Ameobi and Ayoze Perez gave the Magpies victory after going behind to Emmanuel Adebayor’s first half effort.

Despite ending Chelsea’s unbeaten start last weekend, Alan Pardew’s men go into the game as 16/5 outsiders, but they will fancy their chances of beating the 5/6 home favourites having knocked out last year’s winners Manchester City in the last round and lost only once in their last ten matches.

Six of the last seven matches between the two teams have seen three goals or more scored – which could explain odds of 21/20 on under 2.5 goals being scored – but given the recent form a score draw at 7/2 seems to be our best option for this one.
